SPELLS: Water energies – What kind of water should I use?

Water is one of the most vital Element for sustaining life. In many Pagan traditions—as in other religions—water is considered a sacred and holy item.  Related with the Moon, dreams, psychic abilities, and emotions. The Water Element is a shape shifter: It can exist not only as a liquid, but also as a solid in the form of ice, or as a gas in tiny particles in the air. It takes the form of puddles after rain, only to vapor again in the sunshine. Water Element is represented by lakes, streams, rivers, oceans, and rain, and is beneficial in its cleansing, purifying, healing and nourishing qualities.

Nevertheless, it can be a threat to life when it appears as stormy seas and severe rainstorms. The Water Element is mighty when interacting with the other Elements, as it can extinguish Fire, flood the Earth, and combine with Air to corrode and dissolve metals.  Various forms of water could serve your spells in a variety of different purposes, so let’s talk about water energies.

Spring water: Suitable for Fae work, excellent for abundance, love and fertility spells, as well as subtle magic.

Snow water: Fine for rituals and spells that focus on purity, endings and change, as well as slow working spells.

Rain water: It is truly multi-purpose and essential ingredient for growths and rebirth spells. Excellent for spells that you want to keep gaining power over time.

Ocean water: It is used for cleansing, healing, banishing, and protection rituals and spells. It could be used to cleanse crystals (with caution, that not every crystal can or should be cleaned in water. Always research the crystal you wish to use to be sure it is safe to use in water).

Thunderstorm water: It is considered powerful and potent to add a magical boost to any working you’re doing. Great for rituals and spells that has to do with emotional strengthening, confidence, charge and motivation. It is virtuous for hexes and curses.

Keep in mind though that some types of water is ‘alive’ and can get spoiled over time. So if you choose to use Spring, River and Ocean water, it is recommended to use in one Moon circle.
